Brief Description
Processing technologies that preserve green plant material for a 60 day post-harvest period without any degradation for applications in the food and beverage industries.
Problem
The current hop industry preservation mechanism deployed by the hop growers world-wide is to rush harvested hop cones directly to dryers immediately after picking. The dryers heat the hops cones by blowing warm dry air through the drying trays at 65oC. The drying process lasts for at least 5 hours followed by baling palletization and storing at 3ooC in Aluminium bags.
This rapid fermentation of plant material post-picking demands an immediate remedy and current work streams are fixed and inflexible. It is also important to note that the drying process is absolutely detrimental to the preservation of the highly volatile essential oils.
Solution
PresAr is a patented process to preserve green wet plant material for extended periods of time. This technology could be applied to a wide range of plants inclusive of perishable fruit, vegetables, leafy greens, plant specimens and herbs.
The process has been in development for the past 5 years and improvements identified during the development phase yielded a most interesting unexpected phenomenon which resulted in the unique preservation technology.
Results
PresAr has already been deployed in hops preservation and was tested during the March 2022 harvest season. The application passed food safety tests prior to use in a beer brew according to industry standards. Our team is confident to deploy the technology on a large scale for a 30 day period post picking.
